Sources within the Ministry of Education have told Citi News that the Ministry has asked the headmistress of Aburi Girls Senior High School, Mrs Sylvia Asempa to proceed on retirement immediately. Sources say a meeting was held on Monday between the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry to discuss the current deteriorating relationship between the headmistress and the teachers in the school. A letter has already been issued to the headmistress to vacate her post and handover to the Mampong Akuapim Director of Education for the time being. Sources say that the GES will come public later today on happenings at Aburi Girls. The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) had blamed the Ghana Education Service for a series of fracas between the school teachers and Mrs Asempa. NAGRAT said that the GES had been reluctant in appointing a new head teacher for the school and allowed the current headmistress who is on retirement to continue to be in office. On Friday, January 7 there was an attempt by the Police in Mampong Akuapim District to arrest a teacher who is said to have had hot exchanges with the headmistress of the school during a meeting. The teacher had questioned the authority of the Headmistress to chair a staff meeting whilst she was on pension.
