Takoradi, Sept 30, GNA - The Takoradi Polytechnic would soon introduce new academic programmes on oil and gas to enable the youth to acquire the knowledge and skills required for the oil and gas sector in the country.
Professor Daniel Nyarko, Rector of the Polytechnic, who announced this, said: "We realise the enormous benefits that the oil will offer the country in terms of revenue and we thought it wise to train the youth, particularly those in the metropolis for them to have access to gainful employment opportunities".
He was speaking at the 20th Matriculation of the Polytechnic at Takoradi on Thursday.
In all, 2600 students were admitted to undertake various Higher National Diploma programmes and this years' admission saw an increase in the enrolment of female students.
Prof. Nyarko said the Polytechnic in partnership with Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in the United States had developed training modules in welding, piping and boiling among others for commencement of the programmes.
The Polytechnic, according to the Rector, has also obtained approval from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport to run Certificate and Diploma programmes in Logistics and Transport.
He asked the students to develop their skills so that they could analysis issues to enable them to solve social problems.
