Miss Naana Biney, Acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has called on teachers to be abreast with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and work harder to enable them to implement the New education Reform. She said Government would continue to provide classroom blocks, sanitary facilities, libraries, computer centres and teacher's accommodation and interventions to facilitate teaching and learning in the country. Miss Biney gave the advice at the inauguration of a modern school complex that was built at the cost of 900,000 dollars, on Wednesday at Mataheko in the Ablekuma Central District. The project, which was part of a five-year infrastructural development programme of the Electricity Supply Board, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Ireland, to support selected schools at Teshie, Osu and Kaneshie in Accra, was aimed at raising improving basic education. Miss Biney said the GES would strengthen its supervision and monitoring capacity to ensure effective teaching and learning and commended the NGO for supporting Government to improve education in the country. Nii Armah Ashietey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, said Government's was committed to improving education adding that: "We are embarking on several education reforms and policies towards making education more accessible to all." He called on parents to invest in the education of their children to enable them to acquire skills and knowledge needed for national development. Nii Ashietey appealed to individuals and organisations to contribute to the development of education since Government alone could not do so. Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, said children needed quality education to enable them to become useful citizens.
