Two banking institutions have donated a total of GH¢ 55,000 in support of the Otumfuo Charity Foundation that has been promoting education and providing for the health needs of especially the socially disadvantaged. Energy Bank, presented to the Foundation a cheque for GH¢50,000 while Bank of Africa, formerly Amal Bank gave GH¢5,000. This was when the Management of the two financial institutions paid separate courtesy calls on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at his Manhyia Palace on Monday. Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy Bank, Ghana, informed the Asantehene of the official opening of their Kumasi branch. They were determined to establish a strong presence in Kumasi to boost socio-economic activities in the Metropolis through providing assistance to small-scale businesses and entrepreneurs. Mr Kobby Andah, Managing Director of the Bank of Africa, also said they would continue to work hard and introduce new products to assist grow the economy. The Asantehene expressed appreciation for the donations and encouraged the banks to help provide soft loans to traders, mechanics and other private sector operators. They should focus on aiding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to expand their operations and become the main engine of growth of the nation’s economy. He also underlined the need for the banks to be more innovative to help bring down interest rates. Otumfuo Osei Tutu pledged his personal support to the banks and other investors to create job openings for the people.
