Mr Mark Owen Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, has said 648 held a unique place in any society and therefore government placed high premium on the sector. Mr Woyongo, who spoke at the 19th matriculation ceremony of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Navrongo, appealed to all and sundry to invest financial and material resources in education. He said the nation's human resource needed to be imbued with knowledge and skills. Mr. Woyongo said strategies had been put in place to ensure access to quality education. "The completion of already started projects by the previous government and the construction of new ones as well as the development of the capacity of staff are a proof that government is investing well in the education sector," he said. Prof Dr Kwabena Kyei Aboagye, Vice Dean at the School of Medicine who spoke on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, said this year's on-line admission, even though had its own problems, was an impressive improvement over last year's. He said the university was also steadfast in demonstrating its commitment to providing quality education and ensuring that women had access to higher education by providing flexible entry requirements for their admission. The Dean of the Faculty of Applied education Dr. Kenneth Peilg-ba, expressed concern about the behaviour of students on university campuses on trivial issues such as misuse of or disregard for government property and removal of university and urged them to exhibit a high sense of responsibility. He called for the construction of new lecture halls for Faculty of Applied Sciences' and Faculty of Mathematical edcuation and said the two were housed in an old renovated structure which is expensive to maintain.
