Will 50 Cent break the ‘Africa Jinx’ by visiting Ghana? There is a lot of talk about 50 Cent visiting the Gold Coast very soon. Several of his Ghanaian fans have been dying to see him perform live in Ghana ever since his runaway success with ‘Get Rich or Die Trying’. It seems their dreams will soon come true as a major concert featuring the G-Unit hip-hop superstar is on the cards. Perhaps this was catalyzed by the recent visit of 50 Cent’s rival, Ja Rule, to Ghana. Whatever be the case, Ghanaians are excited about seeing 50 Cent soon. What I am looking forward to see is whether the rap star would have his first incident-free visit to Africa. In 2004, he had a scuffle with Idris Abdulrakeem over plane seats on his way to Nigeria and, even though his recent performance in South Africa was without incident, it wasn’t in Angola. In Angola, an unidentified man made away with his blinging medallion when he was performing on stage. Ghana is usually a peaceful country with well mannered, warm and hospitable people so such an accident is a near impossibility. Jacking a celebrity’s bling or ruffing it out with a superstar is as unlikely as having snow fall in hell. However I can’t be completely optimistic; after all when UK R&B icon, Mark Robinson, decided to flaunt his expensive bling while performing at a beach in Accra, some one nicked it. I’m sure 50 Cent will be extra careful when he decides to return to the continent; twice bitten thrice shy. Anyway I can promise Mr Curtis Jackson that Ghana is the place to be and he will have an incident free trip once he gets here.
