The Aviation Social Centre will this year organize the third edition of FITXPLO Festival at the centre in Accra.
The aim is to draw attention to the need for fitness activities, regardless of wherever one wishes to do them. The goal, in the long run, is to have a healthier, fitter Ghana.
FITXPLO is an annual fitness and health event organized by the Aviation Social Centre to create awareness about the need to exercise for good health.
This year’s event is planned to be an informative Fitness Fair that would showcase an array of fitness and health activities, exhibitions and competitions over a period of one week, commencing from 23rd February to 1st March 2008.
The event will begin with the ever-popular “Power Walk” up the mountains of Gyankamah.
This exercise session would involve a walk from the town of Gyankamah through some fruit farms and end up at Papaye Gardens in Aburi, where participants would be engaged in competitive games such as Volley Ball, Soccer and Tug of War.
Attractive prizes are up for grabs. In attendance would be members from various keep fit clubs, corporate bodies and individuals.
However, Sunday February 24 would be a relaxing day for spectators but grueling for competitors of tennis at Aviation Social Centre’s tennis courts, where the “All Clubs Invitational Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles Tournament” would be held, while Five-Aside Soccer and Table Tennis tournaments would also be running concurrently.
Throughout the week from Monday to Friday, evening outdoor aerobic sessions would be held at the basketball court of the Centre. It would be climaxed on Friday with free medical screening and a special session dubbed Aerobics Marathon. These are open to the entire public and the sessions are absolutely free of charge.
Interestingly, kids will not be left out in the festival! Friday February 29 will be the “All Basic Schools Basketball Challenge”.
This is a competition to be held among basic schools, with various prizes at stake. The aim of the “All Basic Schools Basketball Challenge” is to focus on the fun part of exercise as well as the need for it among young people.
FITXPLO will also include a fair of all things fitness and health. Companies whose products have a bearing on fitness, i.e. equipment, clothing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, etc.
would be participating in this fair. The fair will be held alongside the “Ghana’s Strongest Man” challenge on Saturday 1st March, 2008.
The “Ghana’s Strongest Man” competition will climax FITXPLO. Obviously, this competition would be a sight to behold. Competitors would have to go through the obstacle race and haul logs that ordinary folks cannot carry. They would heave weights that are unbearable, pull trucks and sweat it out to the ultimate. Handsome prizes are at stake for the eventual winner of the Ghana’s Strongest Man competition.
FITXPLO is proudly supported by the Ministry of Health, North American Airlines, Unimax Macmillan and Voltic Mineral Water.
