The average shelf life of the Ghanaian musician is quite short to the extent that some vanish into obscurity after two successful releases. And that quickly draws the curtain down on a career which can be typified as a classical case of "a candle in the wind". It is quite astounding that one of the finest gospel groups in the country, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, has defied this notion by all shreds of imagination. This notion is simply countered by puzzle at the group’s ease with which they have gained mastery of the subtleties and peaks and troughs of the Ghanaian music terrain. And the fact that this year, Daughters of Glorious Jesus is celebrating 20 years of churning out one successful album after the other consistently provides further compelling proof that they have few peers as strategists on this stage. This year the group which is made up of three evergreen ladies - Cynthia Appiadu, Monica Owusu Ansah, and Edna Sampong, are planning to celebrate their 20 years together in the gospel music business in a way that will be felt by their millions of fans who are in love with their particular brand of music. They are planning some shows which will take them to all the regional capitals in the country, apart from a major concert that will take place in Accra. Besides, work is completed in their latest album which is entitled Trimude which will be released onto the market soon and will be used to celebrate the anniversary throughout the year. Cynthia, who is the leader of the group, was grateful to God that they are still together and growing stronger and stronger. "We feel highly privileged that God has found it worthwhile to use us to do His work all these years. We are grateful for what He has done for us, but what excites us the more is what will happen in the next 25 years. “We plan to take the message of the gospel to remote parts of the world. We want our music to travel beyond Ghana to places unimaginable.” When asked about the secret of their success, Monica who is the alto singer said: “We still do the same things we used to do when we started. We set a day aside every week to rehearse seriously for several hours, we also use a day to pray and share the word of God. In fact, no matter the nature of a programme or event we attend, we do not relax on the basics. We rehearse for every programme we attend because we are so passionate about what we do, and we always strive for excellence.” Edna also added: “We are a family and we see ourselves as such. We don’t compromise on the unity of the group. As a family, we disagree, we argue but we have still remained as one, and we are always conscious of that fact. The truth is, we are inseparable, and we always look out for each other.”
