Barely a few days after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty where he feature for hosts Ghana, Chelsea’s Michael Essien is upbeat about the ongoing season in Europe.
Arsenal may hold sway in the title race, but Essien feels Chelsea should not be written off as the Ghanaian is targeting the Quadruple.
The Gunners sit five points clear of Manchester United, with Chelsea a further three points adrift, but Essien says The Blues are determined to get their hands on as much silverware as possible.
All four major trophies are within reach for Chelsea and Essien, who will boost the squad after the Africa Cup of Nations duty, is revved up for the end of season battles.
“This could still be a really big season for us,” Essien told The Sun. “We’re still in all four competitions and we will do everything to win as many of them as we can.
“Winning all four trophies is a possibility.”
Essien is in the form of his life after playing an instrumental role in Ghana’s team at the Nations Cup which ended on February 10.
Though the Black Stars of Ghana could not lift the cup, losing to Cameroon in the semifinals, the hosts staged a comeback to wallop the Elephants of La Cote d’Ivoire by four goals to two to win bronze.
Essien, along with fellow Ghanaian and Portsmouth’s Sulley Ali Muntari were named in the CAF XI team, after the tournament.
