Hiplife singer Ex Doe was last Friday unmasked by Kwaw Kese, his comrade who describes himself as ‘the king of the street’, having performed with him at many functions with a mask. After their performance last Friday at the finals of the Nescafe African Revelation (NAR) event to reveal hidden music talents, Kwaw Kese used the occasion to reveal a major force behind his attractive stage ‘magic’. Thus, he pulled off the mask Ex Doe was wearing, exposing his true identity to curious fans at the show.
At the latter part of last year and the beginning of this year till last Friday, any time Kwaw Kese was introduced on stage by MCs, another artiste with a mask comes up on stage to first unleash what could be described as a rhythmic prologue to prepare the way for Kwaw. Sometimes, after the introduction, he performs with the ‘abodam’ chanter. Curious audiences and fans have on several occasions wondered who the guy in the black mask was. But no answers seemed to be close to revealing the identity of the man behind the mask, whose performances always added some uniqueness to Kwaw Kese’s shows.
However, at the Kawukudi Park, off the Kanda highway near Nima, where the NAR event was held, the answer to the many questions about the mask artiste was provided. Ex Doe splendidly introduced Kwaw, and together they performed some of Kwaw’s hit songs as well as some freestyle raps. After their performance, Kwaw Kese drew Ex Doe nearer to himself and pulled the black mask off his head, thus exposing his face. Some fans at the event gazed at Ex Doe in surprise and remarked “aaahhh, eye Ex Doe’, literally meaning “it is Ex Doe”.
The same was done at the GO AFRICA CONCERT on Saturday at the Independence Square in Accra to officially open the 26th MTN African Cup of Nations. After their performance, Bola Ray, one of the MC’s at the show, called them back on stage and Kwaw Kese did what Bola termed “the revelation process.” Meanwhile, information gathered by Beatwaves indicates that Kwaw Kese and Ex Doe are likely to come out with a joint album pretty soon.
