The Chief of Amanase in the Eastern region, Baafour Asare Panin II has stressed the need to promote traditional music and art for national development.
He expressed concern about the gradual disappearance of traditional African theatre music like Osode, Adowa, Kete and Kpanlogo.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency after addressing a community-based organisation, the Abibiman Sankofa Cultural Movement at Amanase, Baafour Asare said traditional cultural music and dance was not only to entertain, but also to educate, inform and encourage people to work in their communities for national development.
He indicated that traditional forms of music and dance had an advantage over foreign music and culture because they were readily available and could be performed at any function.
Baafour Asare commended members of the movement for their development-oriented activities in rural communities to help improve the skills of the people to enhance their living standards.
Members of the movement are engaged in rural industrialization such as production of ceramics, pottery and bricks, gari processing, as well as palm and kernel oil extraction.
