Indo African Child Health Organisation (IACH), is the first Indian NGO in Africa and it is committed to reaching out to children in situations of child labour, abuse and poor health. It was in this light that the NGO, led by the Executive Director, Mr. Sameer Tembe, embarked on an intensive two-day malaria prevention campaign in partnership with Miss Malaika Ghana 2007, Miss Laurie Lawson, in Kakumdo in the Central Region. The event, which took place some few days ago saw the team embark on a door to door Malaria Awareness Campaign which involved the free distribution of treated Mosquito Nets and an intensive education on Child Health issues and Malaria Prevention. At an open durbar organized by the group at the centre of the Town, Laurie and Kwame Gakpey of the National Malaria Control Programme, educated the people on the realities of the malaria menace and urged the people of Kakumdo to join the fight against malaria. Miss Malaika 2007 also took the opportunity to answer several questions on malaria prevention and other Child Health issues pertaining to the area. The Assemblyman of Kakumdo Village, the Chief and Elders, as well as the Kakumdo Unit Committee Chairman and his vice received the team. The Child’s Right Association of Wesley Girls High School in the Central Region and Asem (a musician) entertained the gathering.
