A lot has being raved and rattled in recent time about the man with the most consistent hits of our time Ofori Amponsah, right from his solo debut "ASEW". Since 2001 every Ofori Amponsah lover was very unhappy for the fact that their musical hero had not being able to attract any award from our own version of the Grammy, Ghana Music Awaards with all the magic he did with other great albums like "Paa Kwasi ba", "Sardine" and so on.
"Otoolege" his most successful album made that difference in 2006. His last minutes first ever press conference at the Alisa Hotel on Friday March 3 2006 to react to a Graphic Showbiz front page story that described him as a prankster, published on Thursday March 2, which also happened to be his birthday and proudly cuddled seven awards the next day at the Accra International Conference Center.
After these three most complicated days Ofori Amponsah has become the news maker and till now he is the most talked about musician in Ghana. Its either Ofori Amponsah didn't deserve seven awards; he is no more with his executive producer Big Ben, Ofori Amponsah has changed his management team, misunderstanding with Baroski a staunched member of the "Otoolege" marvel team or most recently the debate about his alleged inability to drive live band.
Let's just say Mr. All 4Real's soul needed some kind of multivation (award) to fuel his performance because after the "Otoolege" success the thirty three year old singer has quelled all his co-equals to the top with such a magnitude. In the same year, with the effort of manager Mufty Daadre (late) he was able to put up his first ever live show "Changing Face Concert" on 30th December at the national theater. Some were impressed as his first shot, other thought he could have done better as a singer wealth his sort.
His winning of four awards at last year's GMA with "Emmanuella" wouldn't just let his name rest not to mention the grand medal bestowed him at last year's National Honours Awards. The Ofori Amponsah crave went quiet until late last year, when he released his black label album "Odwo" presently the most played song in Ghana. When he disclosed his new management team led by Fadda Dickson of Peace FM it became another topic for discussion, amidst challenge from a fellow musician who think Ofori is a wrong comparism to him, when it comes to live performance. This challenge sounded as though his whole career depended on it, but he diplomatically refused it and went on to stage yet another Ofori Amponsah night dubbed "Ghana Rocks" with Ofori Amponsah and friends on Christmas eave.
After several weeks of intensive rehearsals Ofori emerged at the National Theater, took custody of his own show and performed a non-stop 12 hit songs back to back with a treated sound and superb bandsmen only to generate another controversy. Again some thought he was better than last year others think he is just not cut for live band. One may ask what at all do we want Ofori Amponsah to do?
Reacting to the aftermath media reports claiming he couldn't rock to the hype he was given prior the show, Mr. Amponsah expressed his dissatisfaction of some media reports. He thinks it time the media also report some of his positive attributes than always dwelling only on the negative side. The contemporary highlife king said he is doing everything within his capacity to make his fans in Ghana and all over the world happy. About his in ability to take a few steps when he is stage, Ofori said he does not believe jumping around on stage is what makes a good performer but if dancing is what his fans want from him he will consider taking a dance class. He concluded that he will take all criticisms in his stride and make every effort to improve on every, accept of his career.
Perhaps too much is expected of the young musician because for the amount of success he has been able achieve over the years he deserve some hailing. If every musician of type will even achieve half of what he has done within such a short while, at least our industry will be a step ahead. Well, 2008 is another year and Mr. All 4real will definitely move along.
