A group of Ghanaian musicians and some stakeholders in the entertainment industry in Ghana have called on political parties to desist from acts that would undermine the forthcoming elections. The musicians have also planned to release a joint musical album to educate Ghanaians on what to do and what not to do during and after the elections, and also to foster unity. According to them, they have plans of organizing a nationwide peace concert which would feature some prominent musicians and this would form part of their campaign against violence during elections. The general secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Nana Kwame Ampadu told Beatwaves that there is the need for every Ghanaian to campaign against political violence in the country. He said Ghanaian musicians and stakeholders in the music industry have a vital role to play in educating the people on the need to come together as one. In a letter to leadership of all political parties in the country, the general secretary of MUSIGA registered his disappointment at the recent political violence involving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters last Friday at the Chief Imam’s residence at Fadama in Accra. In a letter which contained goodwill messages, he advised political leaders to desist from insults, provocative statements and condemnation of opponents in their campaign to avoid nationwide disturbances that would not augur well for the country. Nana Ampadu therefore advised political leaders to communicate this revelation to their various party members.
