The National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) will this year hold its students film and television festival from Tuesday, March 11 to Friday, March 14. Like previous festivals, this year's which is the 18th, is aimed at highlighting the vital role NAFTI graduates play in the local film and television industry. The four day event forms part of the institute's activities for this year, which were launched in Accra recently. The festival will include workshops, exhibitions and daily screening of current productions by students of the institute. At the launch, the Dean of Studies at NAFTI, Mrs Vincentia Akwetey, said the school was designed to inculcate creative and professional attitudes to filmmaking and television production among the students. She said a section of the public carry an erroneous impression that NAFTI trains actors as well but that was not the case, "We stay behind the scenes to work with the actors and that is why people do not hear of NAFTI as much as they do of the actors." Commenting on the institute’s role in the revival of our film industry, Mrs Akwetey said film production in this country was not flourishing partly due to low capital injection. She added that adequate capital injection was needed to turn things around and appealed to corporate bodies to support the arts in general.
