The presidential awards grand medal recipient, Bice Osei Kufour, aka Obour has paid a courtesy call on the Country Director of Western Union Ghana, Mr. Anthony Kemavor, and presented the grand medal award to the management of Western Union. Explaining the rationale behind the visit, the communications director of Family Tree Entertainment, Nana Yaw Osei-Darkwa said they felt obliged to present the award won by their flagship artiste Obour to the management of Western Union because the organization played a crucial role in bringing Obour this far. He said Western Union was instrumental in helping the Best of Ghana to the World Music tour, an ambitious project by Family Tree Entertainment, come to fruition. Nana Osei-Darkwa indicated the tour was a Family Tree Entertainment event aimed at marketing Ghana through music globally, and Western Union did not hesitate to help make that a reality. He said it would be a sign of ingratitude to take the glory all alone, since “we had an idea, you provided the needed vehicle to drive it, and you did that through sponsorship”. On his part Obour praised the management of Western Union, especially the Country Director, Mr. Kemavor, whom he described as a father and an inspirer. He said it was important that people showed appreciation for kind gestures extended to them since one good turn deserves another. “I feel very happy to be here to present my award to you Sir; you have always been there for me and apart from the corporate relationship you have been like a father to me, helping shape my vision and I am very grateful,” Obour said. He mentioned that though the sponsorship was a corporate gesture with corresponding benefits, the importance of the gesture to sponsor cannot be over-emphasized. In his welcome address Mr. Kemavor expressed joy and gratitude that Obour and his team recognized the contributions by Western Union to their project. He congratulated Obour for catching the eyes of the President and the award selection committee, adding it is a great honour to be awarded by the President, and challenged Obour to even aspire to achieve greater heights. Mr Kemavor said though Western Union has it as a policy not to associate with any particular musician, being a premier international money transfer company, they could however not resist the platform created by Obour to market their services since Ghanaians in the Diaspora were the target audience. Mr Kemavor advised Obour and his team to continue with the good work and urged them to do more. According to him, music was a powerful tool that could be used positively and has no doubt that Obour is on track. He said Obour's road safety campaign is something one can immediately refer to in distinguishing him, indicating that he was convinced that might be one of the many things that caught the eyes of the President. Mr Kemavor promised his outfit's readiness to support any noble cause that had the tendency to positively impact society.
