THE PRESIDENT of Rhythms of African Music Foundation (RAMF), an NGO made up of musicians, Mr. George William Dickson has announced that the foundation’s band has been billed to perform at the first edition of the World Association of Non-Governmental Organizations (WANGO) Africa conference to be held in Accra from April 24-27, 2008. He made this known in an interview with newsmen at the Deon Hotel in La, Accra over the weekend, after a meeting convened by WANGO Ghana Chapter which was attended by 22 members of WANGO across the country. The members included the Centre for Development Partnership, Ampa Resources Foundation, Human Service Trust, Institute for Child Development, Excellence Business Foundation, Liberty Movement Organization, Moslem Development Organization, Touching Mothers Foundation and FASWAK. Also in attendance were Darlings Human Development Foundation, Rescue Youth Development Organization, E-Life Development Foundation, Earth Volunteers, NGO news, Corban Foundation. The rest were Cross Roads African Mission International, Network for Health and Relief Foundation, Pascal Assan Edwards Rural Youth Service and Plan Peace International. Mr. Dickson gave the assurance that the RAMF band would team up with WANGO to assist NGOs in Africa and the Diaspora raise funds for their activities. Mr. Mohammed B. Attah, the African regional coordinator of WANGO said the upcoming conference would not be like others whereby lectures take place and participants only listen. He said this first edition of the WANGO conference in Ghana would be used to bring NGOs in Africa under one umbrella to discuss their problems and find solutions to them as well as review previous conferences. Mr. Attah as well noted that the other objective is to offer WANGO the right platform to launch what is called the Zero Illiteracy Project (ZIP), aimed at helping NGOs in Africa develop their society and reduce poverty. Mrs. Jennifer Brock, WANGO Ghana Chapter President, who was commended for a good work done by mobilizing, strengthening and enhancing the work of WANGO members here in Ghana, urged all NGOs to endeavour to participate in the April 2008 WANGO Africa conference which is under the theme “NGOs as Agents of Positive Change”, because issues that are vital to the progress of the humanitarian sector in sub-Saharan Africa would also be addressed. Also present was Otunba Dele Ajayi-Smith, Founder, President and CEO of African Citizens Foundation and representative of WANGO Nigeria chapter.
