Alice Boakye, the lady who claims she had sex in a car with Rev. Ebenezer Opambour Adarkwa Yiadom, leader of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship centre, after which she got pregnant, has been dragged to a Kumasi High Court over charges of defamation.
Alice was on Monday served with a writ in which Adarkwa claimed she had defamed his character because he never had sex with her so she should appear in court. According to the writ, Kumasi-based Rev. Adarkwa was particularly concerned because though Alice at a point apologized to him over the matter and said it was a blackmail plot, she had started spreading the offensive allegation again.
Rev. Adarkwa in his writ, said the allegation from Alice had damaged his reputation as a Christian leader who should set high moral principles and also as a married man with children who should not be involved in extra marital affairs. Speaking to News-One from her hideout in the Eastern Region, Alice said though she got pregnant after her alleged act with Rev. Adarkwa, she has on her own decision, gone in for an abortion without the knowledge of the reverend.
Interestingly, after her claim that she had been impregnated by Rev. Adarkwa, Alice apologized to him and explained that the allegation was a blackmail attempt to get an amount of GH ¢5,000 and a new Volkswagen Golf from him. She repeated the same apology on a number of radio stations and News-One has a recording of one of such interviews she granted New Mercury Radio in Kumasi.
However, months after Alice had apologized, she returned to her initial allegation that Rev. Adarkwa actually impregnated her and she claimed that she withdrew the allegation and apologized to save him from embarrassment. According to Alice, she joined the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Centre about two years ago when her business hit the rocks and she had nowhere to stay. She said Rev. Adarkwa and the church gave her money to start a new business and also hired an apartment for her to stay.
