When it comes to speaking about matters of the heart and love relationships, Ghanaian girls are usually coy. “Oh! That is not true,” they would say even when there is evidence to show that a young couple is having a sizzling love affair. It was no surprise therefore that Showbiz drew a blank in its attempt to seek confirmation that three of the hottest players in the current Black Stars team are dating three of the hottest babes in the country.Call it celebrity versus celebrity and one will not be wrong.
Chelsea and Black Stars midfielder Michael Essien is said to be “going out” with pretty actress in “Beyonce” and other films, Nadia Buari. So is Portsmouth and Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari being “connected” with 2004 Miss Ghana Universe beauty queen, Menaye Donkor.Udinese and Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has also been said to be “seeing” Miss Ghana 2006, Irene Dwomoh. The common denominator that binds the three celebrity girls is that none of them would confirm .... or deny the relationship when Showbiz got in touch. One of them was even much harder to find — she was always out of “coverage area”.
But information gathered by Showbiz from sources close to the parties involved, reveal that the three couples have been dating for over one year now.Nadia, 25, is said to have confirmed her relationship with the football star on Metro TV.According to a source, Michael Essien was bowled over by the beautiful actress when he watched her performance in one of her films and one thing led to another and they have been together since then.
They’ve been spotted together a good number of times both in Ghana and in the United Kingdom where Essien plays professional football. The source said they are certainly serious about each other and they are in love. “They are a real couple. The relationship has really grown. She's spending time with him. "Going out together and being seen together is their discreet way of letting the public know it's official. It's not like you can send out a press release about these things." the source said.An article on www.showghana.com said rumours were rife late last year that the couple was about getting hitched but events didn’t go according to plan.
Nadia was born into a family of artists in Takoradi in the Western Region. She is the daughter of Alhaji Sidiku Buari, the immediate past president of MUSIGA and her mother is a beautician. She attended Mfantsiman Girls Secondary School and is a graduate of the University of Ghana School of Performing Arts.
According to www.myspace.com, Nadia said acting has always been her ardent passion, dating as far back as her days in basic school.“I was a regular member in the school drama and dance groups. Though I will concede that at that time I was a bit nervous most often before people, a thing I’m yet to get over, the benefit here is that, because I always fear, I always prepare to do the best leading to who I am today. “It came as no surprise when with my debut in the Ghana film industry playing a lead role in the movie Beyonce, the President’s Daughter, I performed creditably. I have since then caught the attention of a larger section of both the local and international communities.
She has had a great acting career in recent times starring in many hit Ghanaian movies such as Beyonce, Mummy's Daughter, Ka Wo Nan To So and Darkness of Sorrow. Sulley Muntari, midfielder for Portsmouth and the Black Stars has been linked with Menaye Ama Afamede Donkor, Miss Ghana Univers 2004 and it is believed they live together in the UK. The two recently graced the front page of Pompey Life, a new magazine dedicated to bringing to Pompey fans the private lives of the Portsmouth players.
According to the publication, what initially started as a rumour was confirmed when the two lovebirds looked inseparable at the Zenith Bank sponsored 4 nation tournament last year.According to a source, Menaye met Muntari at the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006, but she claims that their relationship is still in its “honeymoon period”. She also says that she is “very proud of him. He is a very focused, determined person”. When thesun.co.uk spoke to Muntari about his collection of yellow and red cards last December, he said he gets a ticking off from Menaye every time he makes a late tackle on the pitch. “She does not like it when I challenge too hard. I get angry when she tells me ‘Baby, you should not have done that’ — even when I have done nothing wrong.
Muntari racked up five yellow cards and one red since joining Pompey from Udinese for £7m last summer. He was booked nine times and sent off three times in 16 games in Serie A last season. Menaye holds a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from York University in Canada. The 5'11" beauty queen represented Ghana at the Miss Universe pageant in 2004. She currently runs two charities in the country to which Muntari is a leading contributor. The Menaye Charity is a fund that raises money to provide food and clothing for some 600 children suffering from Aids-related illnesses.
The Menaye International School is a privately funded school offering education to 200 of the many children from seriously disadvantaged homes.According to timesonline, Menaye was a little hoarse from celebrating the Ghana-Morocco match where Muntari scored a goal. She confirmed that, after Muntari’s goal, her phone was peppered with texts and calls from her school and also from the Menaye Charity children. “They were all ringing to say that they had seen the goal and that it was the best day of their lives,” she said. “When Sulley says that a goal can really affect people, this is what he means.”
Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan, 22, might have missed some chances to score at the ongoing Ghana 2008 but he hasn’t missed ‘scoring’ the heart of Irene Dwomoh, Miss Ghana 2006.Irene, 21, a Mathematics and Statistics undergraduate student at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), is said to have been dating the Udinese striker for the past year. According to a source, the two were introduced by a mutual friend and after a series of long distance phone calls, they hooked up in London and have been an item since then.
In a Statesman newspaper publication last year, Irene admitted her relationship with Asamoah Gyan. “We don’t see each other much. He stays in Italy and I’m in Ghana and he can’t stop his work and come here.” Asked about her hopes for the relationship, Irene said, “I’m not hoping for anything for the two of us. Time will tell. Irene described Gyan as “kind, nice and a gentleman.” As Miss Ghana 2006, Irene represented Ghana at the Miss World pageant last year in Sanya, China, little did she know that she was going to make history as the first Ghanaian to be declared the most talented contestant. The 5’10 ft beauty queen, choreographed a performance that involved various dances and a little comedy and at the end of the day, she won the Miss Most Talented award.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz last year, Irene said in the history of the Miss World pageant, no dancer has won the talent special prize. Winning the talent award gained Irene an automatic entry into the semi-final group of 16. Irene, a former student of Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School was also crowned Miss UCC before winning the coveted Miss Ghana title in 2006. The former beauty queen who aspires to be an Actuary loves to dance, play basketball and wrestle!
