When given the chance to choose between TV3 Mentor and Stars of the Future, many would go for TV3 Mentor not because they don’t like the organisers of Stars of the Future but for the fact contestants on Mentor made a lasting impression on them. How many of the contestants on Stars of the future does anyone remember even with their European and American English accent? Irene and Jane remain the most known among them partially because Charterhouse is a good events organising body that places them on some of their major shows. The fact that they have managed to rope Irene and Jane into one of MTN’s billboard adverts cannot be overlooked. However, their songs are hardly heard on radio in Ghana. TV3 Mentor on the other hand may not have the best English-speaking contestants with the sort of prim and prop attitude akin to our society’s high class but one thing cannot be taken away from them, they are loved. Their popularity over Stars of the Future is because most of them have released good albums that enjoy great airplay on radio all over the country. It will also be fair to add that the TV station that organises Mentor is one of the most popular in Ghana. Irene and Jane may be good singers but are yet to endear themselves to the Ghanaian public. Cee of TV3 Mentor fame has become one of the most well-known Gospel singers of our time, topping charts across the country. As a matter of interest, she may be going for her first Ghana Music Award this year. When will we see folks from Stars of the Future appear on radio charts and in Ghana Music Awards nominations? They are not appearing because they are not good enough but there is something very basic lacking. Did I hear you ask what that is? That advice won’t come for free, my friend.
