Dr Cyril Kwame Krah, a medical officer at the Twifo Oil Palm Plantation clinic, has appealed to the National Aids Control Programme to assist the clinic to acquire anti retroviral drugs. He said the clinic had established a voluntary counselling and testing centre but lacked the drugs for people who tested HIV/AIDS positive. Dr. Krah, who made the appeal during the world AIDS Day celebration at Twifo Ntafrewaso said most of people with the disease referred to the clinic faced financial problems. He said the centre that was established in 2005, had so far tested 1,222 people out of which 29 proved HIV positive. Reverend Ababio Danquah, the District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, appealed to the people to support HIV/AIDS programmes being executed in the area to prevent the spread of the disease. He also appealed to them to change their sexual habits and to avoid stigmatisation and discrimination against people with the disease. Quiz competition, health walk and drama were organised to commemorate the event that was attended by workers of the plantation and their relatives.
