A total of 225 health extension workers under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in Ho have begun a six-month training workshop prior to their postings later in the year.
The mostly young ladies would be taken through two months theoretical training in health service delivery and four months practical attachment at health facilities.
Briefing the trainees Madam Jerssie Ekumebu, the Volta Regional Coordinator for the NYEP, appealed to them to take the training seriously to be able to render quality services.
She said they would be taken off the Programme after some time and they should therefore use the opportunity to plan towards the future.
Madam Ekumebu said a total of about 900 young people were being trained in the region under the Health module of the NYEP.
Mrs Doris Quame, Deputy Director of Nursing Services of the Ho Municipal Hospital in charge of the training, said the trainees would be taken through the structure of the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service, Disease Surveillance, Family Planning and Ethics and Rights of the patient.
