Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the Director of Communications for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team, clarified that Dr. Bawumia never referred to himself as a "driver's mate" due to a misunderstanding.

According to Aboagye, those who claim otherwise misunderstood the context of Dr. Bawumia's analogy. During a speech outlining his vision for the nation at UPSA after becoming the NPP's presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia used the "driver's mate" analogy to illustrate that his vision differs from President Akufo-Addo's.

Speaking on Citi FM, Aboagye challenged anyone asserting that Dr. Bawumia called himself a driver's mate to provide evidence. He emphasized that Dr. Bawumia simply aimed to highlight the distinctions between the roles of a President and a Vice President.

Aboagye explained that the roles of a driver and a driver's mate are distinct, stating, "The driver's mate doesn't take the driver's wheel and drive the vehicle to the destination when the driver is not there."

He described Dr. Bawumia's use of the "driver's mate" analogy as a "simile" that some failed to grasp, clarifying that Dr. Bawumia said, "I'm like a driver's mate."
