Ghanaians urged to make run-off credible and acceptable Website
The Right Reverend Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, has called on Ghanaians, particularly politicians to ensure that the presidential run-off was credible and acceptable. He said God granted the nation a peaceful, fair and transparent election on December 7, which had been accepted as the best in Africa and to the admiration of the international community. He expressed the hope that the presidential run-off would be the same. The Rt. Rev. Yinkah-Sarfo was opening the First Session of the 14th Synod of the Diocese in Kumasi on Thursday. The four-day synod, under the theme; “God’s People for God’s Mission,’’ is being attended by 150 delegates. The delegates would consider and adopt, the “Diocese’s Triangle of Hope, Friendship Covenant between the Diocese and Western Massachusetts, the Diocesan Corporate Plan and the Anglican Christian Funerals”. They would also address questions and issues on how the Diocese could grasp the Anglican Identity and strengthen it, take a concrete decision to save and own the Anglican Hostel project in Kumasi and make decision on Diocesan Convention. Touching on the Diocesan Convention, Rt. Rev. Yinkah-Sarfo said the years in between Synods should be used for revival and evangelism and that this could begin next year. He emphasised the need for members of the Church to take worship and liturgy seriously because it is through that, that their spiritual Dr Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of the Interior and former Warden and Bishop’s Nominee of the diocese asked the church to continue to pray for a successful run-off saying that the government was committed to the welfare and survival of every Ghanaian. He appealed to the church to remain committed to its social and spiritual responsibilities to members at all levels. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, in an address read on his behalf said the mission of the church was a challenge that called for great moral strength of character and constant prayers to God for support. He stressed the need for Christians to lead honest and upright lives in this modern world full of temptations. The Very Reverend Professor John Pobee, Archbishop of the Accra Diocese called for spiritual renewal among members saying that the most important aspect of Christian life was not titles and positions but character.
