Pollster and Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch, Ben Ephson has challenged Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to go ahead with her ambition to become the presidential candidate for the NDC in 2012, and says the former First Lady will lose if she dares contests because Ghana is not ready for political dynasty.
Speaking in an interview with Oman FM, Mr. Ephson was categorical that if Mrs. Rawlings is elected as the NDCs presidential candidate, the party will lose the election.
“In February 2000, a group calling itself Konadu for President came out like it is happening now, calling on the former first lady to challenge Professor Mills; but later it came out that Ghanaians are not ready for political dynasty because her husband ruled for 9 years and if she is elected as presidential candidate, the party will lose the election,” he said.
A group calling itself Friends of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) hit hard at the Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, Ben Ephson, challenging his pollster credentials and contends he is "no authority in election matters, but just one of the many wretched comedians and among a bunch of noisy ducklings who have lost touch with reality and would sell their integrity to pretence."
A statement signed by FONKAR's Communications Director, Dela Coffie, cautioned Mr. Ephson not to confuse the public with his jaundiced election analysis if he has been contracted by the government to do its bidding.
But, Mr. Ephson says the Former First Lady can prove him wrong by not ‘chickening-out’ and going ahead to contest the NDCs presidential primaries.
“She can prove us wrong by contesting, it usually starts like this ‘contesting or not contesting’ then she chickens out at the end. But this time around she should not chicken out and go ahead to beat Professor Mills to become Presidential candidate,” he added.
He added that even though Mrs. Rawlings is popular than Spio Garbrah in the party, the floating voters will not vote for her.
“I am not saying Nana Konadu is not fit or less popular than Spio Garbrah, she is actually popular than Spio Garbrah but the NDC delegates will not offer her up because they don’t want family presidency,” he added.
Posters of the former first lady have been posted at vantage points across the country, by individuals purporting to be members of the foot-soldiers of the NDC who are seeking the candidature of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as president.
However, Spokesperson of ex-president Rawlings, Kofi Adams says Nana Konadu is unaware of the activities by the foot-soldiers.
