The police in Asawasi in the Ashanti region are investigating a case in which the Asawasi constituency secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Salifu Borle, has allegedly been involved in an activity which looks like a visa fraud.
This follows a complaint lodged at the station by some of his victims who accused him of taking various sums of money from them, under the pretext of helping them to secure travelling visas.
In other cases, Borle, who is also the Asawasi Sub-Metro chairman and a special assistant to Member of Parliament for the area, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, is said to have collected money from people to also enable them to procure building and site permits.
Though the officer in charge of the case, one Detective Georgina, remains tight-lipped on the issue, Borle is said be using his close association with Muntaka to defraud unsuspecting victims.
In one of such instances, Muntaka’s boy asked Tajudeen, one of his numerous victims, to pay $1,000 into an account in the Amakom branch of Amalbank, account number 00210386, allegedly owned by his company Johelimmed Ventures.
In another instance, he was alleged to have used his position to influence the police to arrest and incarcerate one of his victims at the Regional Police Command for reportedly harassing him.
He promised to get Tajudeen a United States visa to enable him to travel to that country.
But five months down the line, Tajudeen is still chasing Borle for his money, in the absence of the US visa he promised him.
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that though they have been informed about the alleged activities of Borle, the Ashanti regional executives of the NDC have failed to take any concrete action on the case.
When DAILY GUIDE contacted Borle, he pleaded with the paper not to publish the story since it would tarnish his image.
He accepted responsibility but claimed he had no intentions to defraud or not fulfill his promise to his victims and that it was an agent in Accra who had disappointed him.
Borle asked that he be given some time to come to Accra to arrest the said agent for him to refund the money to their rightful owners.
He reached a gentleman’s agreement with DAILY GUIDE to hold on to the story but weeks after he made this empty promise, Borle has done virtually nothing to settle his victims.
