Dr Mark Assibey–Yeboah, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for New Juaben South, has given the assurance that the party is well prepared for the upcoming biometric registration exercise and the December general elections. He cautioned party supporters, especially agents who would be assigned to the various registration centres to be vigilant and avoid complacency in order to detect issues such as registration of minors and aliens. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in a telephone interview in Koforidua on Friday, Dr Assibey-Yeboah said complacency was one major factor for the party’s defeat in the 2008 election. “We have now learnt our lessons and we are not going to repeat those mistakes anymore” he said. Dr Assibey-Yeboah said the constituency had given all the necessary sensitization training on the registration exercise to their members who would be assigned to the various centres and expected them to live up to expectation. He said between September and December 2011, the constituency executive undertook a community sensitization programme to introduce them to the electorate and also educate them why they should vote for the NPP. Dr Assibey–Yeboah said the party had began a house-to-house campaign to explain to the people why they should reject the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government in 2012 election and bring back the NPP to continue with their good policies and programmes. He said the party was working hard to ensure that come December it would not only retain the seat but increase the votes to not less than 40,000. Dr Assibey-Yeboah appealed to NPP supporters to turn in their numbers to register when the exercise begins to be able to vote massively for the party. He accused the NDC for failing to fulfill all the campaign promises made to Ghanaians in 2008 adding that they had no solutions to any of the challenges confronting the state at the moment. Dr Assibey-Yeboah, an economist, said one major challenge confronting the state at the moment was youth unemployment but the NDC government had failed to initiate any single policy to solve it. He said the NPP was able to implement the National Health Insurance Scheme, school feeding programme, national youth employment programme, the capitation grant, free maternal and delivery and many others. Dr Assibey-Yeboah challenged the NDC to show Ghanaians a single programme they had initiated adding that all they were doing were a continuation of what NPP left. He said the NPP was the only party that could liberate the people from the current poverty level.
