Ms Mavis Ama Frempong, Chairperson of the Eastern Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Election Committee for the forthcoming regional elections of the party, has expressed the committee’s commitment to supervise a free and fair election for all candidates.
She said members of the committee have a reputation to protect and have the interest of the party at heart.
Ms Frempong, a former Eastern Regional Minister, said the experience gathered in elections over the years will guide the committee to organise the regional elections fairly for everyone to accept the final results.
She made these remarks when the five member election committee opened nominations for the elections at Koforidua.
Other members of the committee are Mr Magnus Kofi Amoatey, Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo-Krobo Constituency, Mr Agyeman Duah, former District Chief Executive for Kwaibibirem, Mr Ansah Appiah and Mr Annor Dompreh, all leading members of the party in the region.
Ms Frempong assured the candidates that the guidelines and regulations of the party for the election would be adhered to strictly, to ensure a transparent elections.
The interested candidates are to collect their nomination forms between Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th July, 2018, and submit their completed forms to the committee on the 23rd and 24th of July, 2018.
The vetting of candidates is scheduled to take place between 1st and 5th of August, 2018.
A candidate who may be disqualified has the right to appeal through the appeals committee that will be set up by the national executive.
All candidate are expected to be of good standing as well as those who would propose and second the candidates.
