The Reverend Peprah Twumasi, Pastor in-charge of Christ Centred Ministries Church at Nkoranza has urged religious leaders to place the spiritual development and salvation of their members above their personal ambitions and interests. Delivering his New Year Message through newsmen at Nkoranza at the weekend, he said it was unfortunate that some religious leaders had turned the calling into business and neglected their roles and responsibilities of winning souls for God. Rev. Twumasi reminded colleague Ministers and religious leaders “We do not peddle the words of God for profit but in Christ we speak before God in sincerity like men sent from God (2 Corinthians)”. He advised his colleagues not to be enslaved by the desire for wealth “and to satisfy their stomachs to the detriment of their vocation as God’s chosen persons”. Rev. Twumasi expressed concern about low morals in churches, noting that some religious leaders accepted people for positions in the church for their wealth. He cautioned the youth to avoid engaging in social vices and shun peer pressure that could adversely affect their development so they could become responsible adults. Rev. Twumasi mentioned Indian hemp “Wee” smoking, alcoholism, sexual promiscuity and stealing as some of the negative practices that were jeopardizing the lifestyles of the youth. He appealed to political leaders to avoid greed and forge ahead in unity in order that they would be able to initiate development programmes that would bring improvement in the lifestyles of the people. “The provision of amenities such as good drinking water, sanitation facilities, clinics, school blocks and good roads should be the concern of leaders of the country, not their individual and personal interests”, Rev. Twumasi added. He urged workers to be committed to their work hard enough to commensurate their demands for better working conditions.
