Twenty-six men who are alleged to have clashed over a piece of land at Adoteiman, a suburb of Adenta, thereby causing riot, have been arrested by the Adenta District Police Command.
According to information available to DAILY GUIDE, the men belong to two factions in Adoteiman, led by Ashie Dzani and Yaw Segbewu respectively, who are fighting over a piece of land.
The source, also an eyewitness in the case, told the paper that on January 22, 2011, around 8:30am, Yaw Segbewu led some people to the land to work and while they there working, a group of young men wielding a gun, stones and sticks appeared and attacked them.
The source said, “In the process, some of the workers on the land got inflicted with wounds as a result of the beatings some encountered in the hands of the gang led by one Ashie Dzani aka Abiw.”
The source said the Adenta police got wind of what was going on and quickly rushed to the area and arrested 23 of the men on the spot.
As the police were leaving the site, they met another group of men from Yaw Segbewu’s group wielding stones and sticks and heading towards the land to attack Ashie Dzane and his men in a counter attack.
The source stated that the police quickly swept the other gang away to the police station for questioning.
“When they were searched, a single barrel gun with three cartridges of ammunitions was found in the vehicles belonging to Ashie Dzani.”
The Adenta district police commander, DSP Stephen Kofi Ahiafatu, who confirmed the story, indicated that the area had in recent times been hit by a protracted land dispute between Adoteiman and Danfa, all communities within the Adenta municipality.
He said the 26 men arrested would be charged before court soon.
