Nineteen people lost their lives in 125 accidents that occurred in the Tema Police Region between September and December last year. Out of these accident cases, which involved 204 vehicles, 15 were fatal, 22 were serious and 88 were minor cases. This was contained in a data of the Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) released to the Ghana News Agency on Friday by Police Chief Inspector Olivia Turkson, Tema Regional Police Public Relations Officer. The document indicated that 126 victims received various degrees of injuries. It further stated that the MTTU also recorded a total of 357 motor traffic offences during the period. Out of these offences, 320 were recorded as true cases, while 37 were refused. The Unit sent 293 of the cases to court, out of which 215 were convicted and 19 discharged. While 59 of the cases are still pending at the courts, 27 were closed, with no case under investigation. A total of GH¢42,980 were monies accrued from fines imposed on motor traffic offenders by the courts.
