The Queen of Apam, Nana Essel Botwe III, has expressed concern about the growing incidence of teenage pregnancy in the area, and blamed the trend on the failure of some parents to live up to their responsibilities.
Nana Essel Botwe III was speaking at a durbar of the Apam No 2 Dentsifo Asafo Company as part of the annual Akwambo Festival at Apam last Wednesday.
She advocated for the formation of Teenage Clubs to sensitize the young and coming ones about the negative effects of teenage pregnancy and how it could be avoided.
The Queenmother also appealed to women to fully participate in the forthcoming district level elections by offering themselves as candidates and also by voting massively for women candidates.
She further appealed to the Gomoa West District Chief Executive, Mr. Theophilus Aidoo Mensah, and the chief of Apam, Nana Effrim X, to help revive the defunct Apam Salt industry in order to create employment for the youth of the area.
The DCE for his part said Apam was lagging behind in development and therefore needed to have a face-lift to befit its status as the District capital.
He added that all major streets in the town had been tarred and plans were advanced for the creation of employment avenues for people in the area.
Mr Aidoo Mensah therefore called on the residents of the District to rally behind the government to enable it to carry out its development programmes for the town.
He appealed to the people to get involved in the current National Population and Housing Census exercise.
