Akufo-Addo Worried About Jets, Others Website
The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo is worried about some recent decisions of President Kufuor’s government. His worries stem from fear of the opposition parties using the decisions to campaign against him. Some of the controversial and unpopular decisions include the reappointment of the former Roads Transport Minister, Dr. Richard Anane, the approval of a loan agreement to enable the government to purchase two presidential jets and the passage of the Talk Time Tax bill. Speaking to Joy News, the spokesperson of the Nana Addo’s campaign team, Mr. Mustapha Hamid said the decisions in principle were not bad even though they were unpopular. Mr. Mustapha intimated that the NPP presidential candidate is worried about the twist and spin the NDC could give to the issues in order to make political capital. According to him the decisions were in the interest of the nation. He said the argument that the money for the jets could have been invested in the water sector was untenable. According to him money had been approved by Parliament to try and resolve the water crisis. A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kwesi Amakye said the issues would not yield any political benefits to the NDC. But that, he said, depended on how well Nana Addo’s campaign team structured their communications strategy. He stressed the need for the flag bearer to test the pulse of the electorate before commenting on the issues.
