The Ghana Baptist University College at Abuakwa near Kumasi has held a joint matriculation and graduation ceremony for 164 new entrants and 47 graduates. In an address read on his behalf Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister, said it was through the contribution of universities and other tertiary institutions that many countries had achieved economic, social, political and cultural progress. He said the government attached importance to tertiary institutions since their products were indispensable in the drive for economic development. Mr. Owusu-Ansah commended the leadership of the Baptist University College and urged them to speed up establishing a clinic in addition to the School of Allied Medical Science on its campus. Reverend Professor Samuel Boapeah, acting President of the University College, said the college made modest achievement during the first academic year of its operation. He said it also faces a lot of challenges that must be addressed within the shortest possible time in order to consolidate the gains made so far. The challenges include the construction of four-storey block at its city campus at Amakom in Kumasi, acquisition of vehicle and provision of infrastructure at its Abuakwa campus. Professor Clement Somuah, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Baptist University College Governing Council, said the mission and core values could not be achieved if the Ghana Baptist Convention together with the churches did not give the support its needs.
