The Reverend Father Edward Baah Baafi, Parish Priest of Asante-Juaben Saint Stephen Catholic Church, has urged leaders of the nation to purge themselves of egocentrism and all traits of arrogance.
He challenged them to put the welfare and comfort of the people at the centre of whatever they do, show better understanding and appreciation of the pain, suffering and challenges of their subjects and work out solutions for these problems.
Rev Fr Baafi was delivering a sermon at the annual community thanksgiving service organised by the Juaben Local Council of Churches at Juaben in the Ashanti Region.
It brought together Christians, Muslims and Traditionalists to give thanks to God for the New Year.
He said the greed and selfishness of some leaders was to blame for the slow pace of the country’s progress, adding: “This would have to change to give hope to Ghanaians.”
Rev Fr Baafi underlined the need for self-discipline, humility, modesty and respect for law and order among the citizenry.
He noted that no society could make headway in socio-economic development, when the people were lawless.
The Catholic Priest called for unity and tolerance among Ghanaians to sustain national peace.
Daasebre Otuo Siriboe II, Omanhene of Juaben said the people had every reason to be grateful to God for the peace and abundant mercies, he continued to shower on the nation.
He advised the youth to abhor violence and other forms of reckless and bad conduct and rather channel their energies into productive ventures.
