Chief Appeals For Creation Of Second District Website
Obore Yankosor Garibar II, Paramount Chief of Basare Traditional Area, has appealed to the government to consider giving his area a second district. Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the traditional area at Tatale in the Zabzugu/Tatale District, he said the traditional area was vast with one paramount seat, seven divisional chiefs and over 20 sub-chiefs. “The enormous natural and human resources in the area are enough to sustain the district if created,” he said. Obore Yankosor Garibar mentioned vast land, iron ore deposit at Sheini, gravel and stone for construction purposes and seven market centres for revenue generation as some of the area’s resources. He said the government and other benevolent organisations had put up a lot of infrastructure and these were enough for the smooth take off of the proposed district. Obore Yankosor Garibar said the area has three area councils, one senior high school, a police station, CEPS and Immigration posts at the Ghana/Togo boarder. Electricity is available to promote the growth of the cottage industry, five health centres for quality health delivery and two telecommunication networks, MTN and TiGO. He said over 80 acres of land had been earmarked for the construction of offices and accommodation for staff of the proposed district assembly and he would provide temporary offices and accommodation for the staff if approval were given for the creation of the district. Alhaji Mustapha Idris, Northern Regional Minister, commended the chiefs and people of the area for their peaceful co-existence and urged them to avoid anything that could breach the peace.
