Cocoa farmers at Amanfopong near Breman Brakwa in the Central Region, have urged the Produce Buying Company Limited (PBC) to endeavour to rehabilitate its cocoa shed whose roof was ripped off in a severe rainstorm that hit the town. A spokesperson for the farmers, Nana Atoapem Boadu Ayeboafo, regent of the cocoa growing community, said the people had trusted the PBC, a cocoa licensed buying company, that almost all cocoa farmers sold their cocoa beans to the company. He said the surrounding villages who also sold their produce to the PBC, were being discouraged by the absence of a proper shed to do business with and therefore, appealed to the authorities to rehabilitate the shed. He pointed out that in that rainstorm, schools, churches and private houses were equally affected, yet those had been re-roofed leaving the PBC. He said about three months ago, some cocoa officials inspected the damage caused by the disaster and had not returned with any roofing sheets to help solve the problem. When contacted, the Purchasing Clerk confirmed the disaster, but would not make any further comments.
