Criminals Step Up Game At Ablekuma Website
Traders at the Sabon Zongo Freedom Market in the Ablekuma Sub-Metro District on Tuesday expressed concern about invasion of the market by criminals at night and appealed to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to provide fence walls and adequate security to curb the stealing that has become rampant. In a GNA report, the traders contended that hardly a day passed without goods being stolen. They expressed surprise that there were toilet facilities in the area but people living in the structures even dumped their solid waste around, making life unbearable for them. Madam Esther Gyinaye, spokesperson for the traders made this known at an advocacy forum for improvement upon infrastructure and security at Sabon Zongo Market in Accra. She expressed concern about rearing of animals in market places and indiscriminate dumping of waste, which had also become a danger to human health in the area. The Assemblywoman for the area, Madam Jane Amerley Oku also complained about the absence of a warehouse and leakages of sheds as well as unavailability of security lights and advised the market women not to leave their wares unprotected. She gave the assurance that the issues raised would be taken up with the AMA to ensure that all their grievances are addressed.
