Daffiama Naa urges detractors in UWR to give the people a break

Naa Dikomwine Domalae, Paramount Chief of the Diffiama Traditional Area in the Upper West Region, has cautioned those whose main occupation is to mastermind the removal from office of political appointees to give the people a break. He said their conduct tarnished the image of the Region and drew the development of the area backwards. Naa Domalae gave the warning at this year’s “Yiguore/Duuyee” Festival of the Chiefs and People of the Daffiama Traditional Area at the weekend. The Daffiama Naa advised political parties and their supporters to avoid politics of insults and intimation in their campaigns because it had the tendency to divide the people and was not good enough for the development of the country. The festival was on the theme: “Our culture, our heritage the bedrock of national development”. Naa Domalae urged people in the area to go back to their roots and embrace the hitherto shinning aspects of their traditional practices such as the close family ties, communal spirit, good neighbourliness, care for the poor, respect for the elderly and hard work among others. “In my view, if any community or people abide by these traditional values and perform its civic responsibilities, it is then that national development becomes a reality”, he explained. Naa Domalae commended a medical team comprising doctors, specialists and other para-medical staff who hailed from the Daffiama Traditional Area for coming home to provide free medical services to the people. He entreated them to consider seriously the acute shortage of doctors in the Upper West, Upper East and Northern Regions and to resolve to accept postings to the area. He called for the upgrading of the Daffiama Health Centre into a hospital for which a doctor’s bungalow had been provided. Naa Domalae drew the attention of Regional Minister who graced the occasion to certain development projects, especially the tarring of Daffiama Town Roads and the construction of a circle at Barrakyi, which had been delayed. He said those projects had been awarded on contract about two years ago but no work had been carried out on them and urged Alhaji Salia to pursue the matter with the urgency. Alhaji Salia expressed concern about the perennial bush burning in the area and called on traditional rulers to see it as a challenge and deal with it appropriately to help avoid climate change and other desert conditions in the Region. He advised District Assemblies in the Region to support youth cultural troups to keep culture alive to give strength to the national aspiration and cultural heritage. Alhaji Salia advised the people to use the festival as a tool for development as well as promoting unity and trust.
