Divorce Not Evil – Rev. Dr. Anum Website
A senior pastor of the Christian Action Faith Ministries, Rev. Dr. Ben Adjei Anum says marital divorce is not necessarily evil, but what has led to divorce being seen as evil is lack of balanced teachings of the Bible by the clergy. He said this on the heels of the announcement that leader and founder of the church where he is the senior pastor, Christian Action Faith Ministries, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams after divorcing his wife of about 26 years of marriage was remarrying an African American woman Ms Rosa Whitaker in Maryland, US. The marriage took place last Saturday April 19, 2008 at a private ceremony. Speaking to Joy News, Rev. Anum said the perception that divorce is evil is a misconception resulting from ignorance. He argued that “divorce is not an event but an end result of things that remain unresolved for a long time.” He also said the church has failed to give sufficient instructions about family life. Rev. Anum however admitted that divorce is a tragedy, not attractive news, but something that is sure to come. The divorce and remarriage of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has generated mixed feelings and debate for sometime now. While some think he is human and therefore, did no wrong, others are of the opinion that as a member of the clergy he should have done a lot more to save his marriage, so he could serve as an example of endurance to his many followers and others in difficult marriages. The woman Duncan-Williams married Mrs. Rosa Duncan-Williams - the woman at the center of the Archbishop's heart. Ms. Rosa Whitaker is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Whitaker Group (TWG) a premier strategic consulting firm in the US which primarily focuses on Africa. According to the company’s website, TWG’s large and diverse client base includes African governments and global corporations with interests in Africa. TWG has an established track record in providing strategic counsel and executing major initiatives for corporations seeking to expand business operations, partnerships, and engagement with African nations and the global advocacy community. TWG is known for its pioneering work in representing African governments in the U.S. and global corporations, facilitating hundreds of millions of dollars in trade, investment and capital flows. Ms. Whitaker has had extensive engagement on the AGOA initiative offering advice to African governments, including the Government of Ghana. Ms. Whitaker, is an accomplished lobbyist who once served as the first Assistant US Trade Representative (USTR) for Africa in the administrations of Presidents George W. Bush and William J. Clinton. In this capacity, she developed and implemented the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and other bilateral and multilateral trade policy initiatives toward Africa. She started USTR’s Office of African Affairs (OAA) and was the lead US negotiator for trade agreements with African countries. She is no doubt a visible African-American woman.
