Farmer Fined GH¢300 For Killing Animals In Restricted Area Website
A Tarkwa circuit court has ordered a 57-year-old farmer at Samahu village near Tarkwa, Kwesi Anane Asare, to pay GH¢300or in default serve six year imprisonment. Asare pleaded guilty to unlawful entry into Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) wildlife restricted forest meant for tourism and other medical purposes. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Anthony Danso told the court that on January 14, a security officer of GFGL saw Asare hunting in the restricted forest and was arrested and sent to police station. Chief Inspector Danso said a search conducted on Asare revealed that Asare had already killed 55 bats, one snake, an alligator and some glasscutters concealed in fertilizer sacks. The court ordered that the carcasses should be destroyed by the Environmental Department of GFGL under supervision of police.
