The Lands Commission has withdrawn all allocations made in respect of the International Students Hostel in Accra.
The site has subsequently been re-zoned into civic or cultural use and allocated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Public Procurement Authority and the Ghana Revenue Authority for the development of their offices.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by the Chairman of the Lands Commission, Nana Adjei Ampofo says 77 other allocations have been withdrawn as part of the re-development and in-filing schemes of the Commission.
A portion of the withdrawn allocations will be given to the original owners of the land. As an immediate action, the statement said eleven of the plots are being given to the original owners.
The commission is also finalizing proposals to return 50% of specified lands acquired by government to their original owners.
They include the Madina site for social Welfare, the site for Accra Training College, site for Ghana Civil Aviation at Adenta, site for Post and Telecommunication at Pantang and site for West Africa Secondary School at Adenta.
The statement appeals to all interested parties to exercise restraint and allow the process to go on smoothly.
It says the Commission would continue to engage others with similar concerns nationwide so as to address the anxiety expressed in relation to compulsory acquired lands.
