About 16 paramount chiefs of the Gonja Traditional Council led by the King of Gonjaland, Yagbon-Wura Tuntunba Borisa Sulemana Jakpaon on Sunday January 16, begun a crunch meeting in Damongo, to resolve the chieftaincy disputes in Buipe.
With the exception of Buipe-Wura Abdulai Jinapor and his arch rival Chief Bawa Jewu Lebu II, other chiefs in attendance included the Damongo Wura, Tuntumba Jejelemu II, Kpanshe-Wura A.A Abudu, Bunsunu-Wura Leseini Mahama, Mankpang-Wura S.S Gbankulso, Diberi-Wura Sumaila Ibrahim, Wasipe-Wura Kabasagya II, the Kpembe-Wura Alhaji Jarunah Kibasibe and Bole-Wura Gbedese Amankwah.
Sources said the meeting was convened by the King and President of the Gonja Traditional Council, Yagbon-Wura Tuntunba Borisa Sulemana Jakpato to find a lasting solution to the impasse between two rival chiefs in the Buipe traditional area.
When contacted at the time of filing this report, Doli-Wura Awushie M.S Zakariah, Public Relations Officer for the Yagbon kingdom who was at the middle of the meeting said he could not comment.
Meanwhile, checks in Buipe confirmed that Chief Bawa Jewu Lebu II danced to the Damba festival for three continuous days with his subjects at his palace despite the court ruling that Buipe-Wura Abdulai Jinapor is the legitimate chief of the Buipe traditional area.
The police in the Northern Region on Thursday January 13, beefed up security in Buipe to maintain law and order following rising tension in the town.
This followed a ruling by the Tamale High Court II presided over by His Lordship Kwame Ansu Gyeabour on the purported deskinment of Chief Abdulai Jinapor II by the Gonjaland tradional area in favour of the complainant.
However, Bawa Jewu Awushie II who was enskinned as Buipewura after the de-skinment of Abdulai Jinapor maintains that he is the legitimate chief.
One of the allies of chief Jinapor was reportedly attacked by the opposite camp.
