The inauguration of the Korle-Klottey Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which was scheduled for Saturday, October 23, at Adabraka in Accra, has been postponed. Mr Maxwell Mingle, Constituency Organizer of the party, who announced this at a gathering of party supporters at Adabraka said the postponement was due to a directive from the Greater Accra Regional Executive of the Party to enable them to resolve some internal matters to forge a united front. Mr Nii Armah Ashietey, Regional Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey, said the Ridge Hospital and Adabraka Polyclinic were to be supplied with ambulances to facilitate the transportation of patients. He commended the government for bringing the country’s inflation to a single digit while interest rates were dropping steadily. Nii Armah Ashietey said as a result of the pragmatic policies of the NDC Government led by President John Evans Atta Mills, agriculture production had increased by 6.2 per cent while the country’s reserves had also increased. The Regional Minister called on the rank and file of the party to unite and pledged to continue funding holiday classes for final year pupils of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in his constituency and to donate textbooks to schools in the area. Mr Solomon Addo, Korle Klottey Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), praised the government for expanding the School Feeding Programme and honoring the campaign promise of the NDC to supply uniforms to school children free of charge. He urged the youth to take advantage of the different modules of the NYEP to contribute their quota towards the achievement of the “Better Ghana” agenda of government adding that the provision of streetlights had improved security in the area. Ms Safura Yahaya, Constituency Women’s Organizer, noted that response for the Trades and Vocation Module of the NYEP for dress-making and hairdressing was not encouraging and called on the youth especially females to embrace it to improve their standard of living. She stated that the first batch of 25 people in the area had received loans under the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) and appealed to people who had applied to be patient and wait for their turn. Mr Abu PeleBaijigah, an aspiring Assemblyman for North-Adabraka-Tudu, described the socio-economic program of the government as laudable since the focus was on human resource development. He stressed the need for unity within the caucus and the NDC and called on party supporters and activists to work towards the development for their areas.
