It’s Now Illegal To Trade In Non-Iodised Salt – FDB Website
Mr George Pentsil, Zonal Officer of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) in-charge of the Western and Central Regions, on Wednesday said it is now illegal to distribute and use salt that has not been iodised. This follows the passage of the law on iodisation of salt. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi, Mr Pentsil said the FDB had started enforcing the law to ensure all salt been sold are iodised. It would also check to stop the mining, transportation and use of non-iodated salt. Mr Pentsil said the FDB was collaborating with the Police and the Customs at entry and designated check points to halt the transportation and distribution of non-iodated salt, adding that culprits would be arrested to face the necessary sanctions. He said industrial salt dealers are required to obtain permit from the FDB to avoid sanctions.
