NDC Rejects Suggestions By Sitting MPs Website
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has rejected suggestions by some of its sitting Members of Parliament to be exempt from primaries being organised by the party to choose its parliamentary candidates for this years elections. The party said it will not adopt a consensus approach in the selection of its parliamentary candidates. Some sitting NDC MPs have suggested they be exempted from the primaries so that the party can concentrate its resources and attention on areas where the party needs to challenge the New Patriotic Party. Speaking to Joy News, the National Organiser of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said decision to organize the primaries for all constituencies was well thought of by the party. According to him, when the NDC decided to adopt a consensus approach to the selection process in the past, some prominent MPs of the party lost their seats. For him, MPs who performed creditably had nothing to worry as a transparent process was ensured in order not to disadvantage anybody. Mr Ampofo said the National Executive of the party had decided to ensure a level playing field by not showing interest in any particular candidates. He said the party had strengthened its internal processes to ensure only the best candidates emerged from the primaries to contest on its ticket.
