New District Demands Equal Share Of Assets Website
Members of the newly created Nkoranza North District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo region have demanded equal share of assets belonging to the old Nkoranza District Assembly it was created from. The members made the appeal to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment in a motion they tabled at the first ordinary meeting of the new assembly. Mr Brown Matthew Oppong, a Government appointee in the Assembly noted that, the old Nkoranza District Assembly did not involve the new District Assembly in a decision to release a ceded amount of GH¢30,000 and some logistics to it. He stressed that the Ministry should ensure that the new Assembly was not cheated in the distribution of logistics. The motion, which was seconded by Professor Kwasi Nsiah-Gyabaah, also a government appointee, said apart from the physical assets such as buildings, there was the need for both Assemblies to share equally other assets as vehicles, office and secretarial equipment. Madam Grace Obeng Donkor, District Chief Executive, expressed her gratitude to the Members for endorsing her nomination and urged them to maintain the spirit and help develop the area. She called on them to educate the people on the importance of paying taxes regularly and promptly to enable the Assembly to obtain enough resources to initiate and execute developmental projects. Madam Donkor said the Assembly intended to offer scholarships to brilliant students to further their education in tertiary institutions. Major Derek Oduro (rtd), MP for Nkoranza North, called on the sub-committee of the Assembly to monitor the activities of contractors to prevent shoddy work. He advised the Assembly Members to support revenue collectors in their duties to enable them to perform creditably. Mr Peter Denteh, Superintendent in-charge of Nkoranza District police station said more police personnel would be deplored to the station and recommended the establishment of a new police station in the new district.
