Nursing Mother Writes BECE At Home Website
Asare Akweley, a 17-year-old student of Nteso District Assembly Junior Secondary School in the Fanteakwa District was allowed to write her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers in her house when she gave birth on Monday. Akweley was among four other pregnant students who were to write the examination at the Ahomahomasu centre in the district. She was preparing to join her colleagues in the examination room when she went into labour on Monday and delivered at home. Mr. Sampson Awuah, Supervisor at the Ahomahomasu centre, told the GNA that Ms. Mary Aniwaa, District Director of Education and an official from the West African Examination Council (WAEC), who visited the girl at home, considered her plight and advised that even though she missed the Monday’s papers subsequent papers should be taken to her at home to write. Mr. Awuah said following the order by the authorities, subsequent question papers were being taken to her to write at home under strict invigilation.
