President Mills has urged Ghanaians to position themselves to take advantage of the many job opportunities that will be created when construction on the 10 billion dollar STX Housing project begins.
According to the President, the project will not only provide affordable housing for Ghanaian workers but address some of their economic challenges. The president made the comments when he cut the sod for work to begin on the construction of 30,000 Housing units for the security services at Tesano.
This construction is the first phase of a 10 billion dollar STX Housing project. The government says the 1.5 billion dollar project, will make the poor living conditions of security personnel, such as leaking roofs and collapsing walls a thing of the past.
President Mills said the commencement of the project is a signal of a process towards fulfilling a major manifesto promise of providing the security services, especially the police with decent duty post accommodation. “We promised to bring jobs for the people of Ghana and I am reliably informed that with the 200,000 housing units, there would be direct employment for almost 600,000 people and indirect employment for as many as 20,000 people”.
“We want to insist that we follow to the latter our local components role and therefore expect that Ghanaian individuals and companies would be better positioned to take advantage of this project and enable them to better the lot of the generality of our people”.
President Mills expressed his delight that the much talked about STX project has finally taken off. “I am particularly happy that this project is about to take off”.
