Miss Majorie Adorkor Ashiakwei, aspiring assemblywoman for Labone Electoral Area at La Dade-Kotopon Constituency in Accra, has said that the notion that the woman’s place is the kitchen and just a producer of babies must be discarded.
“These days, women are robbing shoulders with their male counterparts in all spheres of endeavours and should continue to strive hard to attain higher positions in the public service,” she stressed.
Miss Ashiakwei made the statement when she interacted with members of the La Small Scale Traders Union at La Town Park during one of her campaign trails to explain her vision to the electorate at the weekend.
She said one of her primary concerns was to lift the falling standards of education in the area and that she would meet with the heads of schools to see how best they could draw up programmes that would
Miss Ashiakwei, a businesswoman, said she would also direct her attention at was the aged in the area as most of them had been left to fend for themselves. “I will collaborate with Help Age Ghana and other stakeholder institutions to address their feeding, health and other pressing needs.”
She said of late the locality had been degraded with unsanitary sites and promised to organize a monthly clean up exercise and step up public sensitization on good health practices and the need to keep the environment clean.
She said sanitation had been an activity in which she had involved herself over the years and that it would not be a difficult thing for her to do when given the nod to become an assemblywoman for the area. Mr Akrong Anang and Mr Oliver Offei Adjei are the other contestants to the seat.
